So School has started again and the commute to and from work has got a bit busier now everyone is back from their holidays. Its all action here at Helloturtle still - I have been busy updating some of the "my-account" features. Your reminders will now be shown in "my-account" after logging in, the ability to change your password has been modified slightly (you can find that under "Account Details"). We are busy preparing the site for the upcoming months, with the big events (such as christmas and new year) looming ever closer. Sam is working hard on an exciting new builder, whilst I am applying the finishing touches to the multipack system and starting work on some more app features.

The new version of our app is available on the app store! Meaning that both the android and apple versions should be the same and our headaches can finally stop! As an added bonus we have now added the Postcard category to the app - If your on holiday (or just doing something and want to shout about it) - take a photo - upload it into the app and size it to fit. Add some text to the front (you can rarely go wrong with "wishing you were here") and right your message on the back.
All our postcards are printed and despatched from our facility in the UK and are sent by first class post.

The Android version of the app is now live and downloadable! Visit our site from your android phone and you be given the option to download the app from the Google Play store. This is the same as iphone version 1.1 which should be available shortly from the App store.
Sam and I are now taking a break from the app for a while, Sam is making some improvements to our basket (and a few other pages). I am preparing all the Christmas pages - including an exciting new multipack system! Check back for updates

Some of you iPhone users may have already noticed that our app is now available on the app store! Android users do not despair though - we have a version ready and are busy testing it. It should be live on Google Play very soon for you to download!

We are still awaiting confirmation from Apple for the app and provided everything is ok - Version 2 is ready for release! Version 2 includes our postcards - you can take photographs using your phone's camera for the front (or use photos from your phone's gallery) and add your own message. The back has a big text box for your personal message and enough room for us to print your recipients address and stick a stamp. No longer will you arrive at your loved ones houses before your postcards - our postcards are printed at our facility in the midlands and posted firstclass the same day!

We have finally finished our first version of our app and have launched it to apple for review. We are very excited about this and hopefully if there are no problems and apple accept the app it will be appearing on the app store in the next few weeks! So make sure you keep coming back for more updates on this! The app maybe in for review but we are already hard at work working on version 2, which will include Postcards!

Sam and I have been very busy with the app, we have changed much of how it works and made improvements to the existing code as well as the server side. So much so it is barely recogniseable from the app we started with, or even the app we had built a few weeks ago. We are happy with how the card builder works now and are doing some heavy testing to find any bugs.
The summer holidays are just around the corner and the olympics are about to start! I am sure we are all very excited about the holidays and getting a chance to see some of the worlds best atheletes, but before you go - why not thank your teacher for all her hard work over the past year with a personalised thank you card?

This week we have been busy trying to finish the helloturtle app, we are nearly there and soon will be able to release a new beta version ready for internal user testing, then with the feedback we get, we'll be able to iron out any bugs that are found (hopefully not to many!) and then get the app sent off to apple so that it can be officaly launched on the Apple App Store! We have been busy working on the app all week, it now reads all the card data from the web before showing you the editor and all the card editing is done on the phone. Once you have designed your card we send the data back to our servers to generate official previews in the normal way. Sam has been working on the photo manipulation side of the app which we can hopefully add in to my current version for a fully working card builder!
It should be ready before too long so keep checking back and be the first of your friends to download it!

As usual I have been busy building the app - we have decided to remove some more of the web dependancy and create an "in-app" card builder. We had tried to use a modified version of the mobile browser card editor, but it wasnt reliable enough. It does unfortunately delay the release of the app though - so keep checking back for more info.

New Feature Alert

Helloturtle.com has launched FREE! video messages that can be added to any card! I have been looking into the logistics of adding a new product range 'personalised bouquets' and Alex is making some real progress on the app! I have continued my tidying up of the app - I have fixed the layouts of the information pages for alternate screen sizes - I have made some alterations to the home page - it is now possible for us to show upcoming seasonal card ranges without constantly updating the app for them (we load the buttons for those ranges from the web) aswell as a few other small changes to make the styling uniform.

I have been busy making the app more attractive on the iPad, as well as doing some general improvements for all devices (adding more information to loading screens - dynamically changing the width of items depending on screen size). I also have to keep updating the basket functions for all these new products sam is adding! He has a few more items in the pipelines - the personalised beer is in the final stages of testing - a range of personalised balloons is taking shape on our development site as well as a range of personalised photoframes and of course the new posters and cufflinks have gone live.

New Product Launch!!!

We have launched two new product ranges today, Personalised Posters and Personalised Cufflinks We have a great range of posters that can be customised with your name, date of birth and personalised message (Some posters have other personalised fields, go check out the million dollar note and see for yourself!). Our cufflinks would make a great present for fathers day, which is currently only just round the corner on 17th June! Today i have also been looking into adding balloons so check back soon for more info on that and we also hope to launch our fantastic bottles of real ale next week!

I have been busy generating card ranges for the app (it loads them in a different way to the normal site), and I have had a play around with the way they are shown - It shouldnt matter what screensize theyre viewed on now - the preview images are scaled automatically and the number of rows changes depending on the available screen.
 Sam has been busy testing the beer, cufflinks and posters as well as starting work to add yet another new product! The beer and posters are very close to going live and I am sure the cufflinks will follow soon afterwards.

Today we have been testing the beer and posters that will hopefully be going onto the site soon, so check back often for more updates on that! I have continued with the app today - bringing the payment gateway up to date with the live site. I have also rebuilt all the cards to fix some font and textbox issues. As with all new bits of software there are a few more bugs to find and fix, but it shouldnt take too long now.
Sam has been busy getting the Beer ready to go live - as well as finishing off the personalised posters page on our development site. We have lots more products to add once the Beer and posters are finished too - so keep coming back for updates!

I have spent today fixing a few minor bugs in the app and updating the basket functions so that users can still see and purchase gift items they have made on the normal site. I have also spent a little time helping sam with his current project.
Sam has been busy making personalised BEER label pages today and its really starting to take shape - the gift builder can now handle the 3 labels (our beer comes in packs of 3 - who only wants 1 beer really???) and the preview system can show the 3 bottles next to each other with the personalised labels. We still need to look at how the basket will deal with them and a few bits and bobs on our despatch systems - but it is looking good for a release in the not to distant future.

I have been busy neatening up the app - changing some of the buttons around in an attempt to make it as easy to use as possible! I have also added in a few progress indicators so that it is more obvious what it is doing. I am currently working on the basket - so that if you have put a gift into the basket on the mainsite you should be able to see it and purchase it from your mobile! (The ability to personalise and buy gifts might be in a future version of the app).

Alex has got a beta version of  the app ready for helloturtle staff to do testing on, so once this has been released then he will be able to iron out any bugs that are found.

So the excitement of those new bits going live has died down a bit, I am back on the app - I have some Apple products to test on now, its another big learning curve as many things are different to android - however I am making progress again. Sam is back working on some additional functionality for the site. He made a resize function for the card previews so that they should fit on smaller screens (we work and test on quite big monitors and sometimes we forget that not everyone has screens like that - until I go home and the website doesnt look the same on my laptop!

So we have been busy putting things live today - check our site now for Personalised Retro Sweets! They look really good - its been mouth watering putting all those pages together!! We have also added a new card page layout - you can now choose the number of cards you wish to see - and adding cards to favourites should be a little more straight forward! The basket has had a little change too - it should now keep all items in the same order every time the page is loaded. Like the new layout? tell us your thoughts!

Sam has been busy preparing things to go live, he has a big list of new additions to the site to go live tomorrow. A new summer flower range, the sweets range, the mini pitches range and a revamp to the gift site as well! Check back tomorrow to see how he gets on with putting those live!
I have been busy making the app less internet dependant (it does seem to be a continuing theme with the app). Making progress and hopefully will have it tested and ready soon.

Alex has been making some great progress on the app, and I have been working on the sweets and mini pitches which we are planning on getting live before the end of the week. I have continued to make improvements to the App - some more tweaks to the page layout in the card builder should make it easier to use. A couple of tweaks to the image uploader have made that much more stable. I have also moved the account functions further into the app so that they rely less on the internet. I need to have a look at the way the card selector works to make it easier to choose a card and some other various improvements before testing and release - but they shouldnt take long!
Sam has been busy with the sweets and mini pitches - its been his first real chance to look at the basket code, but it all appears to be working now - just some tests to fulfilment and they are ready to go live!

The intergration of the new products is now complete, and will be fully tested on Monday, so we will hopefully be going live with this early next week. Alex has been continuing with developing the App for mobile devices and reckons hes now got a beta version working for Android which we will be testing next week, he is currently trying to get the app onto a apple device to see how it will run on IOS. Sam has been busy updating the basket to deal with the new products - as well as some other little bits to integrate them into the site. They are looking good on our development site and will soon be ready for testing and putting live. I have been working some more on that mobile app - because of the card builder and the massive selection of cards we have available - parts of the app are heavily dependant on the internet. I have been trying to reduce the dependancy on the internet so that data transfers (which can be expensive on some tariffs) are kept to a minimum and also so that the user isnt constantly confronted with a "need better signal" screen if they do not have good access to wifi/3G.

Sam has made a good headway into the new functions, just some finishing off and some testing and we can think about putting them live! The app is coming on well too - I have learned a lot about how it works and I am quickly finding solutions to many of the problems it still has. It will probably take me all of this week to finish it though - and a thorough test is needed for such software. Check back soon!

Alex has continued to work on the Mobile App, concentrating on the PrePay side of things, I have continued to work on some of our future projects that we should be able to announce next week! So make sure you check back soon to hear about our exciting new developments.

Sam has been busy testing and finishing off the charity sites today - adding a couple of content updates to them in the process. We also located a small bug with the normal site - an old login box could still be found! It was embedded in some other functions so took a bit of effort to replace, it is all functioning properly now though!
I have been working on the basket functions for the mobile app - the way it calculated costs wasnt quite as sophisticated as the mainsite (although for the majority of item combinations the results were the same) the calculations are now identical to each other. I also worked on some of the account functions - the address editor now shows fields relevant to what you are editing.

After being given the mobile app to take over I thought it wise to take on some of the more simple tasks first, especially as I have done very little OOP programming previously! I have added the pages detailing delivery information and added a "terms and conditions" page. I also edited the navigation system slightly and added some account functions.
Sam has been busy working on our charity sites today - adding more content and testing. Aswell as doing some more work on the additional content for the live site!
We are also getting ready to add some exciting new products to the site, so keep checking back for more information get your hands on that extra special personalised gift for the people you love!

As per last week Sam spent the morning working on new features for the live site while I worked on the App. I also found time to fix a minor bug that I noticed on the normal site - it took a couple of minutes to come up with a fix - and then a while longer to make sure it didnt break anything else!
This afternoon we worked on the card builder - creating a way in which users could swap card pages without reloading - this should save people some time - especially for users on slower connections or using slower machines. It needs a little work before it can go live but we have it working in tests.
With the easter time events coming to an end its time to look to the future - starting next Monday with St Georges day! Our designers have been busy creating lots of wonderful cards for all occasions - so whatever your reason to celebrate - a HelloTurtle card will not go amiss!

I have been busy on the mobile App today - fixing the basket code so that it should be easier to keep in line with the basket code of the normal site. I have also been trying to add other features of the main site that were not available on the app.

I have spent another day working on the app and made a fair amount of progress - if things continue to run smoothly with it then we should be testing before long! Sam has again been busy writing the new software - and that is coming along nicely also. Sam has been busy working on some new features today, we are looking forward to rolling them out in the near future. I have been working on the mobile app and the backend system of the site. On the mobile app I have been looking at the card preview system and getting it to work with uploaded photographs. The backend system needed an update to the reports it generates so I updated those functions whilst keeping it easy for our staff to use.
 There have been rumors today of some new personalisable gifts being added to our selection, what gifts would you like us to sell? and how would they be personalised? We will of course keep you updated on any new products we add.

In other news we have added two new ranges to our flowers section: Spring and Birthstone.

It is always difficult writing a blog after Jade has written one, hers have pictures and are much more exciting to read! But I will do what I can. Today we had a major breakthrough on the app! A problem that we had been stuck with for a while was overcome! It turns out a few fresh ideas on solutions were needed and one of them worked.
I have also been compiling some reports on our affiliate network, we have an ever growing number of affiliates now and it is important for us to check that they are suitable to be associated with us. We also like to check on the performance of affiliates and see if there is anything we can do to improve it.
So we go to a short easter break now, made mandatory by royal mail taking bank holidays.

 So Happy Easter! normal service resumes Tuesday the 10th of April!

Sparks Charity Card

We were recently approached by Sparks Charity for children's health to create a card design which we could donate to the fantastic people who have been raising money for Sparks in the upcoming London Marathon!

We always love to help out Charities here at HelloTurtle.com and we aren't far off now from launching our sites for Dance Aid and Hope for Children!

We'll keep you updated on those but for now you can take a look at the design which we came up with for Sparks below!

So summer has ended - or at least it feels that way after the warmest march for 50 years and then some snow in april! But really we are just getting towards Easter - meaning Easter sunday is now only 4 days away! Everybody will be getting that Friday feeling tomorrow - because of that bank holiday, so we have been working extra hard today on the app to compensate. After set backs earlier in the week I have been lending my services again and we have some possible solutions for the last little bits.

Today I have been busy tidying up our development site. Over time we have changed so much that there is a lot of code that we no longer use, removing it will make it easier to find the code we want to work on in the future! Looking through the files I dont usually touch I did find one or two little bits that may have caused problems - So I fixed those as well!
Its nearly Easter - with Easter sunday kicking off on the 8th of April, dont forget the bank holidays are upon us on the 6th of April and 9th of April - so we will be unable to post your cards on those 2 days, that means you have until 2pm Thursday to get your orders in for Easter Sunday.

So another week without Sam has rolled round - and the monday morning tasks take twice as long! But I have still had some time to work on the site. I tidied the Order History page up further (it shouldnt make a visual change - but the code is much more efficient), and fixed a potential problem with reordering cards. (If you attempted it before you may have ended up paying too much).
Easter is this weekend - and its a bank holiday on Friday - So be sure to have ordered your easter cards by Thursday!

So a glorious week of sunshine draws to a close and we can all look forward to the weekend. Dont forget that Easter Sunday is now only 9 days away!
I have been fixing the order history page today, the pages should make a lot more sense now and if you click to see a preview of a card it no longer moves your browser to the top of the page! We are still slaving away on the mobile app as well, looking very much forward to that being complete. Lots more updates to roll out over the coming weeks so check back often!

Another lovely sunny day across the midlands and easter is only round the corner (yet it feels more like summer!). I received my first Easter card last night and it prompted me to start spreading the easter joy and spirit. Those who have given something up for lent can start licking their lips and preparing for their first bite of chocolate or maybe their first sit of wine. Whatever you gave up it is worth a celebration! (that is what easter is all about).

Spring time has arrived and the sun is out without a cloud in the sky - yet im still here working hard to make the site better! (im more of a snow sports person anyway). I have made some pages ready for new advertising campaigns as well as sort out a few little bugs today. You can now use the filters to narrow down your address book - no matter which page you access it from. It is also much easier to Edit an address if the address has no name - infact any basket items missing names will automatically be filled in if the address book is updated! I am always looking for ideas in ways I can improve the site, as well as working hard adding new features - Why not add us on facebook and tell us any features that you would like adding to the site?

Sam is taking a well earned break and leaving me to handle things for a couple of weeks. Today I have been making a few visual tweaks on our development server - as well as shutting down loopholes that could have caused error messages. I have also again lent my services to the app building, its not far off done now and should be into testing very soon.
In my testing I keep noticing the excellant work of our designers - every time i view the easter cards a few more designs have appeared - and its making me crave the Baratti & Milano Chocolates even more!

Today we have been doing testing to the site to try and remove any bugs that may have been on the site. Alex has been helping out with the mobile development to try and get the photo upload working which is one of the only things stopping it from going live!
New reports have also been created in our backend system to help admin with their calculations.
We'll be putting new updates live very soon, so keep checking back for more information!

Easter is just around the corner - so we have put a new banner on the homepage to take you straight to our easter selection of cards. Our designers are busy increasing this range (as well as lots of other ranges too) and there are already lots of fantastic cards to choose from!
We have been working on our backend systems today - as well as lots of testing of other systems and a few little tweaks to bits of software waiting to be released. So the last postage days for mothers day are looming - why not make your mother smile even if you cannot be there! Make her a personalised card - Add a picture of some happy memory together on the inside. It will be posted firstclass the same day if bought before 2pm, and if you miss that deadline - you can still send "special saturday delivery" on Friday, or even send her a bunch of flowers - that will be hand made and delivered on Sunday itself and can be ordered up until 10am on Sunday!

Today we have been updating our flowers range to include 'Birthdays', 'Congratulations', 'Get Well Soon', 'New Baby', 'Thankyou' and of course 'Mothers Day'. We are always busy here at HelloTurtle - this week Sam and I kicked off with a couple of bug fixes and some other smaller site improvements. Among these - the Address changer in the basket has improved functionality, if you add a new address it will automatically use apply this address to the item selected. If a deadline passes while an item is in your basket you will now get a warning telling you the new despatch date of the item. We have more planned improvements for the week - so check back regularly to find out whats new!

Today our Affiliate Future program finally went live - so expect to see HelloTurtle banners on a multitude of other websites across the internet!
We are currently working on a few automated features to make the site a bit easier to understand. Such as: If you add two items to your basket with the same delivery address and despatch date - A box will pop up asking you if you wish to send them together. Remember that your card currently comes free if it is attached to a gift so this could save you money!
